I usually hate SMF, to be honest - I've had it myself and out of the box I think its rubbish.  I've used many forums that ran on it, and most of those were pretty annoying to use in my opinion.

BUT, I think this forum is good.  I'm not sure what changes you've made, but it feels a lot slicker, smoother, and useable than most other SMF forums I've used.

vBulletin is better out of the box, but I've been on bad vBulletin forums too.

Surely its what you do with the forum software that counts?

Also, most users wouldn't know the difference between one script and another.  On here its different - we're all forum owners, but elsewhere, as long as its easy to use and looks nice, whats the difference.

Compared with eg phpBB, SMF is very good out of the box to be honest.
Has a lot more features and possibilities then phpBB.
This was also one of the reasons I switched to SMF.
But vB is indeed the best out of the box.
Although I have to admit that I kinda disliked vB from the first time I used it.
Didn't really like the interface and the menu's.
With a good template this can be changed ofcourse. But the default theme is rubbish.
The default theme of SMF is a lot better imho.

What was so annoying about those forums then?
Nice to hear you like this one though wink

Perhaps it is because everyone is so used to vB already.
All the major forums use vB.

I beg to differ. I think there are just as many IPB forums out there, though, having looked at the latest Vb build, I think it is far superior to IPB which has just become bloatware with mods imo

Ya, forgot about IPB.
But still majority of these big forums are vB. Although there are some which are based on IPB. vB still reigns.

I don't feel comfortable with SMF, don't know where to look.
Thats because i'm used to vB, as a user.

I started using MyBB on another site of mine. I find it adds the simplicity of IPB on the forum aswell as the ACP, yet it has a similar mod installer as SMF's package manager

What's wrong with the quick reply function of SMF?
And to be honest, from a member point of view I don't like vBulletin.
It's SMF and IPB then.

I like SMF also !
