Oh k. Now I understand.
But youactually just gave me another idea.

First create "post exchange" categories.
Then different categories for the forums.
Like this:

  • Small post exchanges (-10 posts)
    • Gaming
    • webmaster
    • ...
  • Medium post exchanges (10-25 posts)
    • Gaming
    • webmaster
    • ...

  • Big post exchanges (25 + posts )
    • Gaming
    • webmaster
    • ...

And then perhaps keep the affiliates
  • Affiliates (10+ posts and topic & link )
    • Gaming
    • webmaster
    • ...

So basically you can choose how many post you want to exchange.
And if you want to be a FAN-member it is still possible.
But then people that are looking for normal post exchanges can also come here.

Also have to find a way to monitor the post exchanges though.
Wouldn't like members here that want to exchange 25 posts, but never complete it.

But what do you think about that?

I like that idea alot, I think it could work out well. Monitoring it might be a problem because you would have to go to each board to look at the posts, unless....

What you did was have the admins keep you informed about the exchanger doing the post with them and let you know if they are keeping up to there end of the deal.

One thing to about a post exchange that could be hard would be for example, my Sabn Network forum, it is an RP forum, though it does have an ooc catagory for non-writers, but I also wouldn't want my forum cramped with spam posts either. So a post exchange with a forum like mine would also have to have some sort of rules for them, like reviews on stories and such. Even on a Normal gaming forum like for Console games you would have to have some way of making sure that the poster of the exchange was keeping to the format of the forum. You wouldn't want someone posting about the war in Iraq on a game forum...

I could help you brainstorm on this to perfect it if you like.

Create some kind of "Blacklist" and "Hall of Shame" for people that didn't finish a post exchange or just posted crappy things.
The karma system on the forum could also be used.
And in the directory you can also rate links. So positive rating if the admin of that forum did a good post exchange, negative if bad.

But it's indeed the post exchangers repsonsibilty to check the quality of the post exchanges or set additional rules for the exchange (eg at least x new topic, at least 3 sentences in a post,...) and to report a bad post exchange to me.
Then we will check it, and if needed remove him from the directory and put him on the blacklist/hall of shame.

When you submit a link to the directory it's possible to add a description, and even use bbc in that desciption. So settings these additional rules isn't a problem.

I'm starting to like this idea more and more... wink

[edit]
Just rememberd the trader mod for SMF: http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=346
Maybe we could use that one as well.
Opinions?

Not exactly sure how it works.
But you can leave feedback to other users and give them a "trader rating".
Gonna play with it this evening, see what exactly it does.

Think of the Trader system as ebay..You know how you leave positive and negative feedback, that is how it works. You leave a member on the forum a type of feedback depending on what you think.
For example, using the trader system for post exchanges. You would wait until the other party completed the posts, look them over and see how the content fits your site and make sure it wasn't just spam and thenyou come over to FAN and leave them either positive or negative feedback.

I think it'd help.
Question;
are we the only three active members?

I think that could work out well, since if you mess up to much then you are the one with the negative feedback and will suffer the most when no one wants to do a post count with you.

Though, one thing I would suggest is that when someone gets negative feedback make sure they are getting it for the reason the system would be in place, not because someone has it out for them.

I would also add perhaps when someone gets to a negative 5 that they get on the blacklist and when they reach negative feedback they get removed from being able to join in on post counts of banned from FAN....

Feedback definatly has to be monitored.
If you get negative feedback, it should be because you deserved.
Not because they don't like you.
So I agree with you there Smile

And there are other active people as well, they just don't visit daily wink

Heh...This is the most active for me....Lol....

Yeah, monitoring the feedback is the best way to handle that. Perhaps another way to at least promote FAn would be for everyone who is a member of another forum to put the little fan logo into their signature this way the curious will come check it out.
