I have been toying with an idea for a little bit and for some reason I can not get my default theme to change to something that I created. I wanted to change the whole thing around, like the user box at the top where the news is, I wanted to make it smaller and with an image, then the background, I wanted to change that from just black to perhaps a background img. What I was wondering is where do I do all this at?

The background and colours can be changed from the css file.
The userinfo is in index.template.php I believe.
Although don't make these changes directly on the default theme.
Create a copy of the default and make the changes there.
If you mess up of something goes wrong, it'll fall back to the default theme.
