What's your thought about all the animated smilies (or smileys, don't know for sure how to write it  Tongue ) available for forums and instant messengers?
Do you like it or hate them?

And would you use them on your forum or not?

I think that animated smilies are more amusing. I think I would use them if their file size is not much bigger than static smilies

And what if the smilies are larger then normal ones?
They're indeed more amusing, but I'm always afraid that people will use to many of them in a post.

This is a good question.  I like the animated smilies but the more simple ones.  As for the larger sized ones I don't like them.  I just downloaded over 1k smilies from someone the other day.  I think I want to add some that are animated but I'm scared people will abuse them :/

As long as it's just a small animation I don't really mind.
As long as people don't use to many of them Smile

I like the animated ones.. they're more 'descriptive'.

I don't like the ones that are huge tho..

Like there's a free smiley's pack that comes as a hack to Smf.. Those smileys are just too big.

Harro.. there's a limiting script in Vbulletin that prevents over-use of smileys/images.

Like..you can restrict the user to a specific number of images (smileys included) per post.

How does one go about uploading adn integrating such to smf?

I tend to use both static and animated, but only the small animated ones, not the huge ones as those get annoying sometimes. But it all depends on the type of forum you have, for example a webmaster forum should have static smilies, which should only be a tiny bit bigger than the font, a "about everything & fun" forum should have some medium sized funny looking smileys and such.

* Harro agrees
If you have a fun forum your smileys should be fun as well Smile
But it's fine to use a few funny smileys on a "professional" forum, as long as it are not to many and too big.

I would prefer to go with static smileys. I like static rather than animated one.
