In this article I’ll try to explain the advantages and disadvantages of doing link exchanges and submitting your site/forum to directories. Both techniques can be used to get more traffic to your site and to improve your search engines rankings.
Directories Advantages - Most of the times it’s completly free - You don’t have to link back. 1 way links are better to improve your search engine rankings. - There are thousands of directories on the internet! You can practicaly submit your site to thousands of directories. Each time this is another backlink.
- The don’t care about your pagerank. PR0 or PR8, directories don’t care about it, go ahead and submit your site ;)Disadvantages - Time consuming Submitting your site to directories can be pretty time consuming. Every time you have to enter your sitename, url, short description,... - Low pagerank Most directories (or at least the page with your categorie) have pretty low pageranks. - You probably wont get many real visitors from directories
Link exchanges Advantages - You can get links from sites similar to your site. This is also a great SEO advantage - Real visitors aswell! Unlike directories you can get real visitors from your link on another site. Visitors on that site will see your link and click on it. - Higher PageRank Most of the timewebsites have a higher pagerank then the directories (or the categories in the directory). This is also an importan factor when you want to improve your own rankings
Disadvantages - They do care about pagerank If you have PR0 and the site you want to do a link exchange with has PR7 you&undefined;ve got very little chance that they want to exchange links with you... - Make sure they keep your link as long as you keep their link! You have to check every now and then if your link is still on their site. - You need to find a site that wants to exchange links with you. Conclusion: Link exchanges or directory submission, both have their advantages and disadvantages. It’s now up to you to decide which technique is best for your. And where you spend most of your time with. Although I do recommend that you do a combination of both techniques to get both advantages!
