Heyho welcome on the forum!! Smile
Nice looking forum you've got there, love the christmas theme! Big grin

But getting a forum active is indeed pretty difficult.
You just have to advertise it a bit more and post as much as you can.
Wrote a small article a while ago about some advertising methods. Can be found here: http://www.forumaffiliates.net/free_advertising_methods-p19.html

Hi Tanya, welcome to the site Smile

My girlfriend also tried this idea a while back, but she was pregnant and didn't have the time to see it through.

She was going round some of the other similar sites and registering there, speaking with their admins and getting her banner posted about, then of course, you have friends and family who can join, this will make the site look more busy.

Just a couple of suggestions if I may:-

1) reduce the number of forums you have. Some can be combined, such as your chat room, photo forums and your personal forum (make them all under one catagory)

2) remove some of the unused forums,as all you have are empty forums which contributes to your forum looking deserted.

By all means add them later as your forum grows, but keep it small for now and let it grow as your membership does

3) Try and remove the 'text talk' from your forum descriptions, it may seem as if your being casual and creating a laid back atmosphere, but things like 'u' in place of 'you' can actually be irritating to the eye.

4) I'd be wary about having a photo section for kids..in todays sad world you could attract the wrong type of attention to your site, you may certainly get law enforcment authorities poking around  Sad

Sorry if i sound negative, but I went through a similar thing with my site when i first started it, I had so many sub forums and ideas that the board looked very empty. I asked for feedback from another site I go to and a member there did a similar thing, and absolutely ripped my site apart...but he was right in what he said, I was too bias to see it.

Anyway, that's my 2 pennies worth, good luck with the venture

 Smile

Good suggestions!
And it's true that you better start small and add subforums when there is need for new ones.
If you see about 10-20 topics about a certain thing, then it could be a good idea to create a subforum for it, and move those topics there. (Also have to make sure that the existing subforum isn't empty when you move those topics).

wow thank u so much for that information i was aware that photos could attract the wrong attention and did a bit of searching in the admin panel and actually managed to lock that forum to all but admins and mods untill i can work out how to use a thingy that can do post counts only registered members with like 150 to 250 post count can enter! I have no idea what i am doing in the admin section which is why i am seeking help!
I can certainly remove my poor text talk lol to english grammer, i have no idea how to remove forums and stuff though i didnt put the forums in there another admin did that knows nothing about what she is doing either LOL
I have tried joining 6 other forums to get chatting to mums BUT my IP address keep getting declined! I am guessing the girl i was helping run another forum got a bit shitty with me for starting my own forum and has submitted my ip address to forum boards with a word of bad mouth about me? I have no idea!!!
I will take ur advice on board and have a play with admin panel to see what i can do!
Thanks heaps!

no probs...glad to help  Smile

I've little experience with the software you use, but if you look in the admin panel you will probably see somthing along the lines of 'boards'

go into that and you should see a list of all your forums and catagories. If there isn't a delete option on there, then click on the board /catagory name and it should give you a few option..one being delete.

I'll try and get the software and have a root around the ACP for you and see what I can come up with wink

right..had a look. In the ACP, on the left hand side is a series of panels.

The third one down is called 'forum management', click on that link and it will take you to a list of all your forums and catagories.

Next to each one is a series of options for setting permissions, modifying the settings and deleting the boards (as well as options for creating new ones)

i would be careful though, as you do not get an option to move posts from the forum you delete, so if there is anything you want to keep. use yopur normal admin functions to move topics to where you want them.

  Smile

@ admin. Are you able to split this topic so the help section is seperate from the welcome topic? Smile

LOL...that part was aimed at the site admin here. It was to ask if they would split this topic as it has gone from a welcome topic to a help topic. By splitting it, it just helps to keep things relevant and neater..but it's their call as it's their site. They may wish it to stay this way Smile
