Alright, I have a file that I downloaded again, mediawiki, I need it for my forum to make things easier for me and make it a little more professional looking for my members. Has anyone DLed mediawiki and if so, how did you get it to install I am having that problme with it again and needed a little help with it.

The FAQ suggests using filezilla, but I have never used my ftp since I like to do everything longhand when it comes to working on the site, I like to write the code directly...So if anyone knows a little about mediawiki and filezilla please share with a knowledgless Ghost!

I never installed or used Mediawiki.
But filezilla is just an ftp client.
Probably you just have to upload the mediawiki files to a folder on your host and then run an installer.

To upload the files you just have to download them from the mediawiki site, unzip them on your own computer, use eg filezilla (or flashfxp, leechftp,...) to connect to your host and then upload those files.

Ahh, alright, I wasn't sure what filezilla was and how it worked. Plus I was to lazy to look it up last night...Lol...

I got the mediawiki on my comp, opened and WOW, there are alot of files to upload...I might rethink the idea.....But then again, I think having a Wiki makes things look a little more professional and also makes it easier for people to find things they are looking for.

You can select all the files, right click and choose transfer (with filezilla).
All the files are placed in a queue and you can just leave it alone untill the queue is uploaded.
And it probably won't take up too much space either.

But did you ever think to use the SMF wiki theme?
Then you can just use another SMF forum as a wiki.
Or you can create a subforum on your site and force that board to use the wiki theme.

That looks awesome, but I am a little confused on how it works. I thought it was a mod to DL, but it looks like you just add information to their existing smfwiki...

It's not a mod, it's just a theme you have to install.

Dracon, could you give me some pointers on it and how you uploaded it to your server? What program you used and such...I am just trying to make sure I know all the details before I go and use Mediawiki...

I don't like SMFwiki, because it being a theme and i don't think it will do like mediawiki will do, but I do appriciate the suggestion Harro...

For me I used my normal Cpanel upload and I uploaded it in Zip format and exctracted it on my server as it provides me that facilty.I am not sure about you.
Then I used the bridge at their site and woosh I had my members integrated to it.
Mine wiki is http://wiki.gforumx.com
