I do not know that much about computers but I know enough. I have windows defender on my computer and all of a sudden it stopped working. My windows update stopped updating (last update March 21st). I am running windows Vista off a laptop i bought a few months ago. My computer runs fine for the most part, but all i wanna do is be able to play Bodog poker, and it wont run and im wodering if windows defender is stopping it. Every time i start my computer is says Error 0x800106ba.

please help, and please do not give me any scientific stuff i wont understand.

My guess would be that somewhere inside of McAfee is a list of allowed programs.  Windows Defender may be blocked.  As an alternative, you can turn off Windows Defender by starting the program and going to tools, then options.I'm trying to turn on Windows Defender and I'm getting a message that states. "Window Defender is turned off by Group policy". It goes on to say "contact
your system administrator to enable Windows Defender via group policy..

I have had this problem with a few visat machines and havnt really been able to do much about it. I agree with the post above, that it could be an antivirus, but 9 times out of 10 its just vista being vista. i would reccomend downgrading to xp or going to the local tech store (or torrent site haha) and getting windows 7

if you could post which version of vista it is and what antivirus you are currently using i could possibly be of more help Smile
